3,950 Acres of Diverse Habitats
The Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve contains 3,950 acres of diverse canyon and ridge habitats, including 4.5 miles of Big Chico Creek, and is home to many species of plants and animals. BCCER was created with the purchase of the Simmons Ranch in 1999 and the Henning Ranch in 2001. It is owned by the California State University, Chico, Research Foundation.

Magee Peak view – Thousand Lakes Wilderness
To reach the summit of Magee peak… is not an easy hike, but it is very rewarding once you get to the top. 360 degree views of wilderness and mountain peaks, if the clouds cooperate you will get astounding views of Mt. Shasta, Lassen Peak and more. If you haven’t seen this area put it on your bucket list, but plan ahead, check weather forecast and pack smartly.

Magee trail – Thousand Lakes Wilderness
Magee trailhead accesses the high country of Thousand Lakes Wilderness near the stunning Magee Peak. The trail is steep, but offers some breathtaking views of Mt. Shasta, Lassen Peak and others.
