"images of life" - was living in Paradise...until it burned down

on my wife’s birthday… 11/08/18

We had no notice of impending fire and devastation…
I woke up and saw a strange orange glow in the sky from our bedroom window…I knew we had to go and there was little time. I went to my daughters room woke her, and said we must leave now. My wife did not think it was that close…and was hesitant to wake up, until I brought her outside.
We had time to get our pets, 4 dogs and 5 cats and go…as we were leaving a fire truck was coming up our already clogged road with a bull horn telling everyone to evac now!
“I will never forget that first sight of a sky of orange and the roar of the flames coming up the ridge…”
Our drive to the safety of Chico below the ridge took approx 3+ hours…being chased by flames and sometimes driving through areas of homes burning both sides of the road…it was around 10am but it looked like midnight…we had n95 masks so that helped a bit but the smoke was unavoidable. We were the lucky ones…many did not make it.

We really thought Paradise was Paradise…we miss it alot…maybe we will rebuild someday, as for now we our living in a little farming community in the valley not far from Chico.

We lost so much in that fire it’s hard to put into words…and among those things were 3 external hard drives worth archived photographic images…gone.

someday i will get a new one...but i have to stop falling down on the trails....ha
recently went down hard camera took the force of the fall and bounced back without issue :)
